Zombie Makeup
After looking into makeup that was specifically inspired by the story of Dorian Gray, it started to remind me of the makeup practices of making a zombie or living dead effect. Dorian's picture ages and becomes an evil reflection of his soul; it looks old and degrading, as if the body was dead and started to decompose. This effect made me think of zombies and the dead makeup for films and tv. This is an example from the walking Dead.

This amazing piece of makeup art from the Walking dead was made using prosthetics and special effects, it is really interesting to see the similarities in the designs from Dorian Gray and the designs made to imitate zombies. These makeup designs inspire me because during the application, nothing has to be exact; the skin can be coming off, or blood dripping down the face, I especially like the teeth in this image, it gives the face a real dead look; as it the body is degrading and falling apart.

This is an example of zombie makeup by Tice Lerner, I chose to look at this style instead of an over dramatic zombie look because this style illustrates the Dorian Gray style of makeup better than something too over the top. As Dorians picture decays slowly and the picture is still, this design looks good as a recreation, the teeth are an effective part of the makeup as they draw in the attention to the mouth and the skin that has been eaten away around it. Although this style of makeup is very gross it inspires me to want to create something gory, I admire the creation techniques and the skills used to create something so gory and but still look realistic.

The designs of these two zombies was made by using makeup and prosthetics, the detail in the two is inspiring and also shows similarities in the film design of the decay of Dorian Gray's soul. I have chosen to look at these two zombies, especially the male as the hair in this particular design shoes a strong resemblance to the hair of Dorian's paining, it shoes decay and loss of life as the hair is thin, straw like and discoloured.

Makeup artist Greg Nicotero and his team spent hours and hours making u the hundreds of zombies for the tv show the Walking Dead, he had had plenty of experience as he is the makeup artist for films; drag me to hell, The Hulk, Pulp Fiction and Sin city. This is an illustration of parts of the development of making one of the zombies; the makeup is a very important part of the The Walking Dead, and the realism of the design has to be spot on. I believe this was executed very well, and the zombies for the Walking Dead look gory and realistic.
