Voodoo

What is voodoo?
-a black religious cult practised in the Caribbean and the southern US, combining elements of Roman Catholic ritual with traditional African magical and religious rites, and characterised by sorcery and spirit possession. 

In the 1972 novel, Mumbo Jumbo, by Ishmael Reed, the main character is a Voodoo priest named Papa Labas after Papa Legba. In 1982, Elton John released a UK B-side titled "Hey, Papa Legba," with lyrics by longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin.

People who practice Voodooism, are believers of many spiritual things; a visible and invisible world, one where the dead and the living reconnect, they believe the dead are always watching over us, next to us in another world. This religion can be practiced by anyone who choses it, but most voodooists are native and the practice is brought down to them from family members. A famous voodooist 'Marie Laveau' take form history was known for her voodoo magic, this character has been brought to life again in the Coven series.

Voodoo is conifeer an evil religion due to the racial abuse that was happening during he time of practice. At this time voodoo was practiced by African and Caribbean people, and they weren't considered even human at this stage, the religion was called superstition, their practices and gods considered evil and voodooists where considered witchdoctors. This has forever turned voodoo into an evil religion that is still portrayed that way in films today.

Papa Legba

This is the symbol that represents Papa Legba; symbols are used to represent religion or a religious person. Pap Legba is a spiritual being that either gives or denies permission to speak with the spirits of Guinee. Guinee is a spirit in the voodoo world. Papa legba has been portrayed in films before, ranging from AHS to the princess and the frog, but the personality is always perceived the same, the makeup is portrayed in a way to represent death. He wears a skull painted on his face as a mask.
