Early Victorian Hair Design

Early Victorian Hair Design

Early Victorian hair design starts from about 1830-1860, this was the very beginning of Queen Victorias rein, the hair styles of this time where tight, made up of small tight curls, very structured and short; hair styles where highly plaited and pinned up by the ears to elongate the neck, most hair styles where stalled with a tight bun and the back of the head and slightly longer ringlets at the front, around the face. The image below shows Queen Victoria on her wedding day with hair that is tightly plaited around the ears and pinned back into the bun, I notice in all the hair styes of this time, there are no stray hairs or any hair that makes the style look untidy.

During the early years of the Victorian era many women worse bonnets, this was a fashionable hat smiled very big and hair during this time would often mimic the look of a bonnet.

The hair in these images shows tight neat curls with structured buns and plaits, this look was often very  short because it was fashionable during this time to elongate the neck, dresses would have been very low and this would also add to the elongated effect.
