Gothic literture 

William Shakespeare
Was considered an inspiration for some of the authors of Gothic Horror, Walpole admits that while writing The Castle of Otranto, he was inspired by the plays Hamlet and Macbeth. It can be seen that the style of writing form Shakespeare is a gothic stye; writing about madness and sorcery, this type of book was popular during the 18th and 19th century when more book of this type whee being published.

Thomas Parnell
Well known for his gothic style of poetry, he was considered a graveyard poet; this meant his writing style was one of morbidity. Popular the 18th century; graveyard poets would write about or reference the dead, skulls and coffins, epitaphs and worms; all subjects that revolve around the graveyard scene. As writing techniques progressed, graveyard poetry expressed more of a feeling for the sublime and the uncanny and showed interest in ancient English poetry and folk poetry. Graveyard writers are often recognised in the Gothic Literacy genre or the romantic movement.

Thomas Chatterton
Was a young boy who took the name Thomas Rowley and used novels written by a late monk to bring some gothic horror writings to life. He was a troubled boy who didn't make friends well, he liked to be on his own most of the time and was considered an idiot. At the age of seventeen he committed suicide by taking arsenic.

Beckford
known for his extravagant lifestyle and amount of money, Beckford was considered one of the wealthiest men in England and loved to spend his money on the lavishes of a luxurious life. He was never charged with the crime of molestation even though it was said he had a six year affair with a young 10 year old boy. After this came out i the newspapers, Beckford chose to exile himself from the public world and began to write sadistic gothic novels.

Ann Radcliffe
A well known author of gothic horror; she was also known for her romantic style of writing; vivid descriptions of landscapes an long travel scenes. The gothic element she uses is supernatural, and the explained supernatural and inexplicable phenomena helped her t gain recognition her writing.
