Victorian Post Mortem Photography
Postmortem photography was a popular grieving process in the 19th century, it was known to help with the whole grieving process and was often the only piece of remembrance people had of their loved ones. Although today it is considered to be a bit creepy to take pictures of the dead, during this time it was a common thing to do if one had the money. Portraits of the dead was common before photographs where invented, so when the camera came about it is probably no surprise that photographing the dead became popular.
